Greetings,
As the Rector of St. Matthew's Church, I would like to bid you welcome to our website. For those who know little about the Episcopal Church, I would like to take this opportunity to explain who we are as a Christian denomination, and a bit about who we are as a local community of faith.
The Episcopal Church in America is a part of the world-wide Anglican Communion, which is made up of some 80,000 people around the world. We are a church that accepts all ethnic and national groups; we are a reformed Catholic Church in liturgy and theology that has maintained the 7 Sacraments (of baptism, the Eucharist, ordination, marriage, confession, annointing and confirmation), as well as the three orders of ministry of bishop, priest and deacon. Our emphasis may seem to be on the Sacraments, but the study of Holy Scripture and learning about our Lord's will for our lives individually and corporately, is as great in importance for us all.
St. Matthew's Parish of Latham is made up of a wonderful group of people who work and play and pray together. We strive hard at being the family of God, gathered together to do the work of Christ Jesus in New York State's Capital Region. We extend an invitation to you to browse our site, noting items of interest. We also extend an invitation to you to join us for worship and fellowship.
Be assured that if you are looking for a supportive Christian family, in a Church where the Gospel of Jesus Christ is preached and lived, you'll find one with us.
In Christ Jesus, our Lord,
The Reverend Ronald E. Harrison, Rector |
